Your Car Winter Checklist

Check your tires! – Worn out tire treads are hazardous, especially on ice and harsh weather conditions. With worn out treads your car will be more prone to hydroplaning in the rain. To check to see if your treads are worn out, simply place a penny into a tread groove on your tire with the head of Lincoln facing down. If you can see all of Lincolns head the treads are too worn out and your tires need to be replaced.

If  you’re traveling outside of Texas to a place where there’s heavy snow fall during the winter months, you should look into replacing your normal tires with snow tires. These tires have a softer more bendable rubber and have treads to grip the road better.

Fill up your tires – Cold air can cause air pressure to drop in your tires. Make sure your tires are filled to their recommended PSi this winter!

Change your oil and check your antifreeze – The cold weather can cause the oil in your car to get thicker. If you can, you should look into getting a thinner oil during the winter months to keep everything moving smoothly.

Fix your heater – This one should be a given! It is never fun to sit in a freezing car so if your heater is having difficulties you should get it checked out.

Check your cars battery – If your battery is having any troubles, you should change it or get it checked out, so you don’t get stranded and so your car is running smoothly!

Replace dirty filters – Dirty filters can reduce airflow in your car. This can cause your motor to get stressed out and it can start overheating.

Emergency Road Kit – Keep a first aid kit and an emergency kit in your car with jumper cables, portable air compressor, a flashlight, and any other tool to help you in an emergency!

Get your breaks checked – Better safe than sorry. Breaks will help you on those icy roads and prevent drifting!

Stay safe this winter!
